Veterans Program | Detox & Recovery Support for Military Veterans
Inpatient recovery designed around Veterans and military families
A veterans-specific addiction treatment program recognizes the unique impact of military service, trauma, and reintegration-related stress on alcohol or substance use. Our veterans’ detox and treatment program uses an integrated approach of trauma-informed care with the best evidence-based practices to help vets feel understood and respected.
At Sunrise Detox, vets are surrounded by peers with shared experiences. Here, they can get the support they need to find peace and rebuild their lives.
Overview of the Veterans Program
At Sunrise Detox, we are proud to be a participating provider in the VA’s Community Care Network, expanding access to high-quality care for veterans and their families. We deliver comprehensive substance use and mental health treatment through a veteran-centric lens, recognizing the unique experiences and challenges that often accompany military service.
Our team of highly trained clinicians understands the complex relationship between service-related stress, trauma, and addiction and tailors each treatment plan to meet the specific needs of those who have served our country.
Our mission is to honor that service by providing compassionate, evidence-based care in a safe and supportive environment, empowering veterans and their loved ones to achieve lasting recovery.
Challenges Veterans Face
Vets often face unique challenges that can complicate recovery, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), unresolved trauma, depression, and anxiety. They may also be acclimated to being in a high-stress environment, as is common in military culture. Extended periods of intense training, exposure to combat, and long-distance deployments can cause physical, emotional, and psychological stress.
To cope with these stressors, veterans may turn to substances such as drugs and alcohol. However, self-medicating in this way often leads to addiction.
We understand that treatment specifically designed for veterans is a critical component of long-term recovery. Our program uses an evidence-based, military-conscious approach to help vets face past trauma, find understanding, and develop healthy coping skills that support a future in recovery.
Detox Services for Veterans
Our medically supervised detox program is often the first step on the road to recovery. Our highly trained addiction specialists offer around-the-clock care and provide close monitoring and support. You’ll reside in our comfortable inpatient facility while you remove harmful substances from your body and prepare for the next stage of recovery.
This includes frequent assessments utilizing evidence-based withdrawal assessment tools to gauge the severity of your withdrawal symptoms. When needed, we offer FDA-approved medications to ease withdrawal symptoms and curb cravings in addition to other stabilizing medications such as antiemetics, antianxiety medications, or anticonvulsants. Our goal is to keep you as safe and comfortable as possible.
We use a trauma-informed approach to addiction treatment at Sunrise Detox. Most vets have experienced service-related stressors that have directly contributed to their substance use. Our team will work with you to develop an individualized treatment plan that recognizes the impact of these experiences and helps you develop a foundation for sustained healing and recovery.
Therapeutic Support Options
Along with detox services, we offer individual and group therapy and peer support groups that are tailored to meet the needs of veterans.
In individual therapy, you work one-on-one with a clinician to process the intense experience of detox. You’ll also address your past trauma and any co-occurring disorders, including depression and anxiety, that are frequently seen with addiction.
We offer group therapy sessions twice daily and 12-step meetings each evening. Group therapy is especially important for vets who are struggling with addiction. Listening to and engaging with others who understand the unique experiences of being in the military and how it relates to addiction helps to lessen feelings of guilt, stress, and emotional and mental pain that many former vets understand.
Our peer support groups are led by behavioral health specialists and individuals who are in recovery from alcohol or drug addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. These groups offer a place to connect and find understanding through common experiences, such as combat, frequent deployment, or loss of comrades.
Peer support groups offer you a place to speak openly and foster a sense of camaraderie (much like in active service) that helps you rebuild trust, reduce shame, and normalize the struggles that often come with PTSD and addiction.
